Inverkeithing is one of the oldest towns on this stretch of the Forth, a royal burgh since around 1161, sitting on the terrace above Inner Bay at the narrowest crossing point of the firth. The old centre around High Street, Church Street and the Mercat Cross still has its medieval friary, the tolbooth and stone houses that go back centuries, and only Letham Hill separates it from Dalgety Bay: the two towns are all but joined, and Jack is on the far side of that hill.

Around the old core the housing is mostly twentieth century. Add a busy private rental market around a station that carries the Fife Circle and the main line north, plus the Ferrytoll park and ride and the M90 on the doorstep, and you get a proper mix: rewires and modern boards for the older stone properties, landlord EICRs for the flats, and EV chargers for the newer streets.

For emergency call-outs Inverkeithing is about as close as it gets.
